I’ve mentioned before (okay, gushed about) how much I like the Rad Soap Co. Most of the soaps and lotions that I use now are theirs, and it’s always a pleasure to try something new from them. That’s why I’m so excited about this post! I’ve been talking with Sue and Greg of Rad Soap for a while about some of their newer products, and on a recent trip to their table at the Troy farmer’s market, they passed along a body bar and cream for me to try. It’s called Wonderland Chaga and it’s absolutely lovely.
(Stick around for later in the post–you can win some to try for yourself!)
Rad released their Wonderland Chaga products over the summer. In addition to natural oils and shea butter, both the body bar and cream are infused with Chaga mushrooms, which are high in antioxidants and work to combat free radicals that can damage the skin.* You can read more about Chaga and Wonderland Chaga products on the Rad Soap blog.
Needless to say, I loved both the bar and the cream! The basic oatmeal color of the Chaga bar might make you think that it’s nothing special at first, but don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance. This is a smooth soap with a great lather. It even feels smooth when you pick it up, which is more than appropriate since that’s exactly how it leaves your skin after washing. And it’s really too bad that there’s no way to share smells over the Internet, because this stuff has a heck of a scent. I couldn’t decide at first what it reminded me of. It’s thoroughly enjoyable yet hard to place, somewhere between citrus candies and the smell you get when you cook or bake with orange juice.
Wonderland Chaga cream is part of Rad Soap’s line of Extreme Creams, all of which are targeted for specific purposes. Chaga cream is meant to aid in moisture retention and keep skin safe from potentially damaging environmental factors. All I can tell you is that it left my skin very soft. When I opened the pot, I found a thick, pearly cream with an almost whipped appearance. It’s much thicker than Rad’s regular body creams and a little goes a long way. I also found that it takes a bit longer to work in than other creams I’ve tried, but it’s worth the extra effort. It has the same bold citrus scent as the soap, and it lingers after you put it on.
It’s such a great scent that you might even attract attention. Last week I was sitting in my favorite coffee shop when the owner ambled in from outside. After a moment, he asked if I was wearing perfume. I told him about Chaga and he declared that it smelled nice! He’s a very mellow guy, and not really the type to notice that kind of thing, so coming from him it was a huge complement. So not only is Wonderland Chaga good for your skin, it makes you smell awesome all day long.
